The LGU-Viga has been conferred by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) through the Bureau of Local Government Supervision (BLGS) with a passing score in the CY 2022 assessment for Good Financial Housekeeping (GFH).

Viga is one of the 10 municipalities in the province of Catanduanes which received the same recognition. For consecutive years since 2016, Viga has been a consistent passer of the GFH assessments.

Municipal Accountant Mr. Perfecto M. Villamartin said in an interview that this distinction validates the LGU’s efforts in pursuing its vision of a clean, transparent and accountable local government.

The award recognizes LGUs that prioritize accountability and transparency in their financial management practices. It aims to promote the responsible and efficient use of public funds, minimize corruption and misuse, and increase public awareness of the allocation of funds for local development projects.

An LGU receiving the SGFH must adhere to accounting and auditing standards, comply with full disclosure policies, manage resources wisely, and effectively utilize available tools for local development.

Since its inception in 2010, the GFH serves as an assessment tool used to measure the performance of the local government in terms of establishing citizen engagement through a transparent reporting of public budget and expenditures.

The GFH is also one of the core components of the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) which employs a more comprehensive evaluation of the administrative capacity-building efforts of the local government.
